I never knew it was SO easy to make homemade granola! Not only is it wayyyy cheaper, but I also know exactly what ingredients I’m putting in it. You can find a small bag of granola at Walmart for around $3-4, or you can buy a large container of rolled oats for the same price and make several batches of homemade granola.

It starts with 4 basic ingredients: oats, your choice of oil, your choice of sweetener, and salt. That’s it! Some recipes use more oil, but I cut the oil in half because my digestive system is sensitive to it. You can certainly add more oil if you’d like (up to 1/2 cup), but it’s pretty sufficient with only 1/4 cup.

All of the other ingredients you add are basically up to you. Granola is fully customizable to your heart’s desire

FAVORITE ADD-INS

Before baking, you may mix in:

  • Hulled Hemp seeds
  • Sliced almonds
  • Pecans
  • Peanuts
  • Coconut
  • Pepitas
  • spices (cinnamon, etc)

After baking, you may mix in:

  • Chocolate chips
  • Raisins
  • Dried cranberries
  • Other dried fruits

I LOVED this granola on top of a breakfast banana split! Split a banana and top with yogurt and whatever else you like… For this, I used Chobani non-fat Greek yogurt, and I sweetened with a drizzle of pure maple syrup and frozen blueberries (I ran under water to defrost).

Let’s make some granola!

First, mix together oats, oil, sweetener, and salt in a large bowl. Then, spread out onto a pan lined with parchment. Bake at 300° F for about 30 minutes, or until slightly browned…

Let cool COMPLETELY before using.

PLEASE KEEP IN MIND that the granola WILL NOT be crunchy until completely cooled. The first time I made this, I almost burned it because I didn’t think it was done.

Store in an air-tight container for up to 3 months.
