Whiten Your Teeth Naturally

Reading Time: 4 minutes

Because of my daily routine, I don’t have to whiten my teeth too often. I make and use my own toothpaste using coconut oil, baking soda, and essential oils, which help to keep my teeth really white all year long.

About 2 weeks ago, I ran out of my homemade toothpaste, so I used the other non-toxic toothpastes in the house. They do work just fine, but they don’t really keep my teeth as white as my homemade version. After a few days, I could already see my teeth starting to look stained again and losing their “whiteness.” It really only takes about 5 minutes to make the toothpaste, but I never let myself get around to it, if you know what I mean.

Therefore, it was time to do another whitening! But this time, I wanted to share with all my Facebook friends and go LIVE! Holy moly, this was my first live video, and even though I could talk my head off in any other situation, live video gets my tongue every time! I made a list of what I wanted to talk about, but every time I would say something from my notes, I would jump too far ahead. I also left out a few things I wanted to mention about the whitening, which I describe below. I’ll get it eventually, but you have to start somewhere right?! I wasn’t made for Hollywood that’s for sure! Ha!

This simple whitening technique uses only 2 ingredients from your kitchen! The last time I bought the whitening strips in the store was probably about 10 years ago or so, and I do know they were pretty expensive. They also contain toxic chemicals.

Why am I so against toxic chemicals? Basically, the 4 filtration systems in our body do a wonderful job of filtering out toxins. But when you are putting toxins in your body on a regular basis (which would include the daily use of toothpaste), your organs can only handle so much. Then, when you also add toxins from our food sources and our environment, our body cannot keep up. Heavy metals, like aluminum, don’t leave our body at the same rate as other toxins, and some never leave at all. Therefore, they just sit there all nice and comfy in our colon, liver, and lymphatic system, unless totally detoxed out. Read more info on that here. Over time, and even suddenly, these toxins poison us and cause all kinds of problems from large to small – acne, body odor, weight gain, sickness, allergies, diseases like cancer, and even organ failure.

I use lemon juice and baking soda for a whitening session. Watch the video below to see exactly how I do this.

IMPORTANT: If you have teeth enamel erosion or enamel diseases or problems, you should not use this method. Baking soda and water alone will work just fine as a whitener for you. The lemon juice serves as the plaque remover and extra whitener, and the baking soda serves as a cleaner and whitener as well. If you are weary about lemon juice damaging your teeth, please only use water and baking soda. Excessive citrus contact with teeth has been known to cause enamel damage. This includes, apple juice, grapefruit juice, orange juice, etc.

Since I only use this method about once per year, and my dental checkups have been great, I am not concerned about using lemon juice. You could use the lemon method safely once per month, and even up to once per week, but if you already use a homemade baking soda toothpaste, you shouldn’t need to whiten too often. This is assuming that you don’t already cover your teeth excessively with other citrus beverages.

Another whitening method is using strawberries! I know, crazy right?

Also remember: If you are accustomed to using bleaching methods of whitening, you will notice that this natural method whitens a little differently. It actually LOOKS MORE NATURAL!! Your teeth also won’t have that fake-white-bleach look.
